The Illinois Council of Directors of Practical Nursing Programs

The Illinois Council of Directors (ICOD) of Practical Nursing (PN) programs is an organization of Nurse Administrators of nursing education programs, which has been in existence for over the past two decades.

The Council is a voluntary organization whose constituents are Administrators of PN programs throughout the State of Illinois.  For many years, the Administrators of each program met separately to discuss issues specific to their programs.  More recently the councils of the Administrators of ADN programs and the Administrators of the PN programs throughout the State merged because were often the same councils.  

The purpose of the Council is:

  • to assure the integrity and viability of Practical nursing programs;

  • to improve communications between programs;

  • and to share innovative content and methodology between programs.

The meetings are schedule three times a year; usually in October, January and April of each year.  The location of the meeting is strategically & logistically selected to assure travel across the state if equitable and fair among Administrators. 

There are four officers:

  • a chairperson

  • a chair-elect

  • a treasurer

  • a secretary

These individuals are elected and may serve a two year term. 

Members are welcomed anytime throughout the year.  The criterion for membership is that you serve as an administrator of an PN program in the State of Illinois.  Membership dues are required annually which is $20 for each program.
